Get cozy in the Cable Bay Sweater, inspired by the serene inlet of the same name. Featuring a delicate balance of eyelet stitches and wide cables, paired with drop shoulders, balloon sleeves, and a relaxed fit, this sweater is perfect for any casual occasion.
Designed for confident knitters, this sweater is knit with DK/8-ply weight yarn and utilises short rows for shoulder and neckline shaping. The sweater is worked flat from top down to the underarms, then in the round for the remainder of the project. The sleeves and neckline are both picked up and knit in the round for a seamless finish.
The designer recommends a DK / 8 ply weight yarn in something that will make the texture sing, like 100% wool or a wool blend such as merino and alpaca. You could also try holding 4ply wool yarn together with lace-weight mohair, as long as you can comfortably get the right gauge. One tester had great success with Knitpicks Gloss Fingering (70/30 merino/silk) held double with Knitpicks aloft (72/28 mohair/silk).
Models are both wearing size B and the blonde model wears it with approx 20 cm / 8″ ease. Designed to be worn with 5-20 cm / 2-8″ of positive ease, depending on your fit preference. Sizes read as A (B, C, D) (E, F, G).
Finished bust measurements: cm = 99 (109, 117, 127) (137, 147, 157) / inches = 39 (43, 46, 50) (54, 57.75, 61.75)”
Yarn quantity: metres = 1500 (1650, 1800, 2000) (2180, 2380, 2540) / yards = 1640 (1777, 1970, 2187) (2384, 2603, 2778)
Needles: 4.5 mm (US 8) circular needle (or size to obtain gauge) with a suggested 80 cm (40″) long cord AND 3.5 mm (US 6) circular needle with a suggested 80 cm (40″) cord. NOTE: the sleeves and neckline are worked using the magic loop method, but you also opt for a shorter cord or DPNs.
Gauge: 20 sts x 25 rows = 10 cm x 10cm / 4″x4″ square in stockinette stitch. If you have too many stitches across your 10 cm/4″ space, you need to go up one (or more) needle size. If you have less stitches than needed, you’ll have to go down a needle size.
