Truly Myrtle - Skeppe

A classic hat knitted in the round from the brim up.

An eye-catching “tassel” stitch is knitted with a simple method requiring no extra needles. Pattern includes written and charted instructions, and tips on knitting the “tassel stitch”.

The flat crown gives Skeppe a relaxed, slouchy finish.

Optional tassels are attached with twisted cord, once knitting is complete. Step by step instructions for the tassel & twisted cord are included.

Skeppe is a fun knit, ideal for the adventurous beginner.

SIZES
Small child 3-5 yrs (Large child 6-10 yrs, Adult, Large adult)
To fit head sizes 19-20 (21-22, 2-22, 23-24)“/48-51 (53.5-56, 53.5-56, 58.5-61) cm.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Brim circumference 15.75 (17.5, 17.5, 19.25)“/40 (44.5, 44.5, 49) cm; blocked and unstretched.
Height from base of brim to top centre of crown (not including tassels) 8 (8, 9, 9)/20.5 (20.5, 23, 23) cm.

Note: Sizes Large child and Adult are the same circumference but differ in length.

GAUGE
26 sts and 29 rnds = 4”/10 cm in “tassel stitch” pattern on size US 8/5 mm needles, measured at the base of the “tassel”.

1 repeat of the “tassel stitch” pattern = 1.75”/4.5 cm wide (12 sts) and 2.75”/7 cm high (20 rnds).

YARN
2 (2, 2, 2) Skeins of Lark by Quince & Co. (100% American Wool; 134 yds/123 m per 50g). Approx 171 (180, 224, 230) yds/156 (165, 206, 210) m of worsted-weight yarn.

Tassels require approx 18 yds/16.5 m of total yarn specified.

NEEDLES & NOTIONS
Size US 6/4 mm circular needle 16”/40cm long.
Size US 8/5 mm circular needle 16”/40 cm long and for knitting small circumferences.

Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain correct gauge.

1 stitch marker.

Cardboard rectangle 2”/5 cm long and 1.5”/4 cm wide and crochet hook, for (optional) tassel.
